UNESCO heritage site: Stari Grad Plain
Some call Hvar a party island and there are certainly plenty of excellent bars, restaurants and clubs, making for a vibrant nightlife. But for us and its 11,000 residents it is also a wonderful island for relaxing and enjoying the daytime. The 68 km long limestone island provides the perfect environment for pine forests, olive groves, fruit orchards, vineyards and lavender fields, which makes going for a walk or a bike ride even more enjoyable.
Like everywhere in Croatia, Hvar has a long, rich history. This description is particularly accurate when it comes to Stari Grad; established by the ancient Greeks on the northern side of the island, it is one of the oldest towns in Europe that people still live in. The original inhabitants also created the agricultural field divisions of the Stari Grad Plain, one of the most visually dramatic aspects of the island’s landscape.
Hvar is an unmissable port for yacht charter itineraries. There are plenty of bays for gulets, motor yachts and sailing boats, catamarans.
