Šolta is a small island in the Adriatic and part of the central Dalmatian archipelago. Half the size of its larger neighbours, this little gem is home to less than 2,000. Like all the islands, Šolta’s economy benefits from tourism but it also earns from its vineyards, olives, fruit, honey and fishing. Another fascinating fact about Solta island is that it’s home to a very special grape that’s made into an excellent red wine and these are the very same type of grapes that were taken to California and developed into the famous Zinfandel variety.
While wine and delicious cuisine are important aspects of a visit to Šolta, so are the island’s beautiful bays, coves and beaches, particularly on its southern coast, many of which are still off the beaten track, perfect for holidaymakers looking for tranquillity. The largest bay, Necujam, is on the north of the island.
